Racing
We welcome any riders who want to race and can maintain a speed of over 22-23 kms/hr to come and have a go. We are friendly and supportive and always keen to have new members . We are more than happy to help you learn to race and will teach you the finer details as you get started. It is a fantastic way to stay fit and learning to race is so much fun. All you need is a road racing bike in good working order, a safety approved helmet and your favourite lycra racing gear. You also need to bring your own sports drinks and snacks to have during the race. We will supply a cuppa and afternoon tea post the race to have the opportunity to talk and get to know the other riders. The majority of our races are run as handicaps or graded scratch races. This gives everyone, no matter what their ability, a chance to participate and be competitive. Distances and courses also vary so all riders get to participate on a course they enjoy. We also try to select courses that are safe and have as little traffic as possible. We ride from several different locations, but try to regularly get back to our clubrooms at Woodstock, especially during winter. We do run criteriums at the Huntly sale yards on a Wednesday evening over daylight savings. These are run as graded scratch races and are very well attended and competition is fierce! Racing is $10 cash for entry, paid on the day. Riders enter on the day of the event, at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. This gives the handicapper time to organise the race and which bunches the riders will start in. If you are running late or want to let the handicapper know you will be racing, you are more than welcome to contact Aileen via phone on 0427960908. All riders must either have an Auscycling 4 week trial ride or be a member of Auscycling and hold a racing license. Members from other clubs are always very welcome to race with us. Courses have approved permits from relevant management authorities and races are usually run on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm or Sunday morning at 9am during summer. We are not able to race on total fire ban days or if the temperature is forecast to be above 35 degree’s at the beginning of the race. We may also cancel a race if there are dangerous conditions forecast that may make it unsafe to ride. We will always try to let riders know well before the start time of the race, but this is not always possible. Club championships are run once a year, usually in September/October. All financial members of the club are eligible to compete in the club championships. Riders are governed by the Auscycling rules of racing and must follow the direction of the marshals and referee’s. Please remember that marshals are there to protect your safety and that it is in every bodies best interests to obey the direction given. We all want everyone to get home safely after a race! All riders are expected to do corner duty as rostered. This involves directing riders at corners so they safely get around the course. The referee of the day will instruct those on corner duty as to their responsibilities. We also expect corner marshals to bring something for afternoon tea to share with the riders after the race. If you are unable to complete your corner duty, we ask that you attempt to swap your day with another member or let us know via facebook. As a member you will be covered by the Auscycling insurance policy that is part of your membership. We encourage you all to read this so you know what level of coverage you have.
